Last weekend, Amazon suffered a technical glitch. A huge selection of comics were offered at hugely reduced prices. You know how hard it is to control yourself in the face of a bargain? Imagine hundreds of them.
I tend to find myself with plenty of time to work on my writing and post crap on the internet, then suddenly I am booked up for days on end. We’re approaching one of those periods now.
I’ll cut to the chase on this one: I am a mess. Obviously, there are up-sides, otherwise I wouldn’t do it. On the other hand, there are also a few serious negatives. This calls for some kind of list, under a series of “clever” headings.
Since it is pay day, and recent entries have tackled heavy themes like climate change and charity, I thought I’d write a less heavy entry about how nice it is to be given a pile of money. And what happens next.

It is the start of Lent, and many people will take the opportunity to imitate Jesus. Even the non-Christians get in on the act, ditching a bad habit or two to try and imitate Christ’s 40 days of deprivation in the desert.
It is one in the morning. The worrying part is, I’ve long ago stopped considering this to be “late”.
According to Google, it was Thomas Edison who declared that genius was “1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. This phrase has since entered the lexicon. After some thought, I concluded there might be a third genius requirement out there.
Of my many flaws, my attention span (or lack of same) has probably caused me the most grief. It’s tricky, knowing that if you glance away from any task, there’s a good chance you’ll forget what it was.
Thiss isn’t about social mobility. This is about survival. Humiliation is not good for the soul, unless you’re a struggling comedian, so it’s worth averting if possible. But the after-work drinks area is a potential minefield of pain, humiliation and vomit.
