About
Hi there.
I’m Nick Bryan, and this site has been designed to provide useful thoughts, help and advice, in a somewhat snarky manner, as well as a more writing-orientated homepage for me personally. In terms of who I am… well, my Twitter bio describes me thus: “Fluffy-haired writer. Likes comics and poncy tea. Sarcastic optimist. Fiddles.”*
Our entries here at FTBD will seek to educate, amuse and advise on a range of topics, without any of the restrictions often found on similar sites, such as the need to be tediously useful, deadly serious or even vaguely upbeat. If you’d like to know when we update, we have RSS like all the cool blogs, or a posts-only Twitter feed as well. Updates will happen… hopefully more than once a week, but probably less than four times.
When not advising viciously, I also do some writing work on a freelance basis. If you would like me to bring my special combination of dry sarcastic humour and extended metaphor to your webpage, blog or similar, why not email me and ask about it? I also produce some more serious-toned work if that’s your bag, you can see some of that here.
Finally, if you’d like to hear my day-to-day life chronicled in 140-character chunks, there’s always my Twitter. Yes, that is my face off to the right, but don’t look too hard at it.

The title of this site
This internet location, as you have probably spotted, is called ‘Feeding The Black Dog’. This is a reference to the classic Churchill quote describing depression as a “black dog”, and is partly meant to hint at the occasionally downbeat tone I adopt whilst writing. It is mostly, however, there because I thought of it in the pub and decided it sounded cool, and it lets me have an ickle cartoon dog in my banner.
And the domain name was free, which helps. But obviously, depression is a very bad thing. If you think you may be depressed, you should probably see someone about that.
